Tamara Sooknanan

I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University at Albany, and I’m currently pursuing my Master of Social Work degree and Trauma-Informed Certificate for Children and Adults at the University of South Carolina. I began my internship at Advanced Practice Mental Health and Wellness in Fall 2025.

I also work remotely for a nonprofit organization in Northeastern New York that focuses on addressing HIV and related health concerns, opioid addiction, and mental health challenges. Through this experience, I have had the opportunity to work with diverse populations and deepen my passion for supporting individuals with compassion, empathy, and understanding.

My approach is grounded in trauma-informed, holistic, and strengths-based care. I believe everyone has their own story, strengths, and goals, and I strive to create a safe and supportive space where individuals can feel heard, develop healthy coping skills, build inner strength, and find hope again.

I was raised in Upstate New York and recently relocated to Myrtle Beach. In my free time, I enjoy going to the beach and spending time with family and friends.

I am passionate about working with children ages 10 and older and adults who may be experiencing life stressors, trauma, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, or other difficult challenges. I am excited to continue growing on this path while supporting individuals on their journey toward healing and living a fulfilling life.
